Accommodation & Transfer Services

When you arrive

We can arrange an optional airport transfer to your accommodation on arrival in Melbourne. If you require this service, you will need to advise our Accommodation Staff and provide your flight details in advance. Contact our Accommodation Office for more information: Accommodation@hawthornenglish.vic.edu.au

Where will you live?

Hawthorn-Melbourne has an accommodation office with 3 full-time staff who can assist you with a number of accommodation options:

Homestay

Homestay accommodation provides opportunities to experience life in an Australian home and to improve your English language skills.Students’ rooms usually contain a bed, desk, lamp and storage space for clothing. Homestay hosts’ lifestyles are very diverse and like all Australians, they come from a wide range of cultural backgrounds. All hosts speak English at home although many hosts are also able to speak other languages as well.

Temporary Accommodation

If you are not sure what sort of accommodation you prefer, we can arrange for an inexpensive bed and breakfast style hotel for your arrival. Once in Melbourne, we can provide further advice on your accommodation options.

Share Accommodation

In 'share accommodation' you live in an Australian home but you are more independent. You pay rent for your room, pay a share of the bills (gas, electricity, telephone and internet), buy your own food and do your own cooking. The Accommodation Office has a noticeboard displaying advertisements for share accommodation which students can independently visit and decide on.

After your arrival we can provide advice on how to look for share accommodation.

Renting a Flat

On arrival at Hawthorn-Melbourne, we can provide information about renting a house or flat. Please be aware that most properties in Melbourne are rented with no furniture. You will need to sign a rental contract (lease) for either 6 or 12 months or more, and pay for the connection of gas and electricity and possibly internet and telephone. Renting a house or flat is generally only suitable for students staying longer than 6 months.
